COREXIT, CRUDE OIL & YOUR HEALTH
The toxic oil-and-dispersant soup BP is making in the Gulf of Mexico endangers us all, but on the front lines are poorly-paid cleanup workers (including prison labor) forced by BP and its subcontractors to work without legally mandated safety training, equipment or oversight .
We already know how BP treats its employees: it murders them. Why is the Federal Government allowing BP to continue killing us? These gross violations of existing health and safety law constitute criminal endangerment of the lives of cleanup workers, and OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is nowhere to be seen.
As documented by chemist Wilma Subra, the following are Human Health Impacts associated with the dispersants Corexit 9500 and 9527 being used by BP & with the Louisiana sweet crude oil flowing from the Deepwater Horizon wellhead.
All of the effects below, from both Corexit and oil, can occur via inhalation, ingestion, dermal (skin) absorption or eye contact. Bear in mind that the Federal Government is letting BP make cleanup workers handle this stuff without masks, respirators or gloves.
